    Coe Mine Engine Shaft

OS Map Ref    SK  59805, 26000

This mine is situated on Tearsall Farm. We have been given permission to explore and survey the mine. Until we find the real name we shall call it Coe Mine as it lies next to a miners Hut.

Work started in December 2000. The Engine shaft which is in excellent condition . ginged for 30ft, then in solid limestone about 120ft. to water. There is one level off, 20 ft above the bottom, that is choked with ironmongery and rubbish. This looks easily diggable, once some belays have been put in place. This will be cleared and  explored during January 2001.

Jan 14th 2001
Work continued today  Belays were placed at the entrance to the level. The water has now dropped about 10 meters below this but no more levels have been found off it.
The rubbish has been cleared and there is 10 meters of crawling  passage ending in solid rock.

Jan 28th 2001
On checking the water has drained completely from the engine shaft. The bottom bells out and a passage goes around the back of  the main shaft slightly down following the water path to a blockage.
Work has ended at present.
